Arthritis: Causes, Symptoms and Natural Remedy

WHAT IS ARTHRITIS?

Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints. There are more than 100 different types of Arthritis, wit different causes and treatment methods. Two of the most common types especially in people of African descent are Osteoarthritis (OA) and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).

CAUSES OF ARTHRITIS

The cartilage is a firm but flexible connective tissue in your joints. It protects the joint by absorbing the pressure and shock created when you move and put stress on them. The reduction in the amount of this cartilage tissue cause a form of Arthritis called Osteoarthritis (OA). An infection or injury to the joint can help the natural breakdown of the cartilage tissue.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disorder. This occurs when your body’s immune system attacks the tissue of the body. These attacks affect the Synovium which is a soft tissue in your joints that produces a fluid that nourishes the cartilage and lubricates the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disease of the Synovium that can invade and destroy a joint. It can eventually lead to the destruction of both the bone and cartilage inside the joint.

Deficiency in Vitamins and minerals like Vitamin D, K and Calcium can affect both physical and mental health. Many people have vitamin D deficiency without realizing. Vitamin D is a nutrient that helps to regulate the amount and absorption of Calcium in the body. Vitamin D and Calcium is crucial for bone health. A deficiency in Vitamin D causes bones to soften and become weak. This is called Osteomalacia in adults and rickets in children. Vitamin D deficiency symptoms may include muscle pain in the joints, including Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) pain, which often occurs in the knees, legs and hips.

SYMPTOM OF ARTHRITIS

  • Joint pains
  • Stiffness
  • Swelling
  • Redness of skin around the joint

In the case of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) you may feel tiredness or experience loss of appetite due to inflammation the immune system causes. You may also become anemic (your red blood cell count decreases) or have a slight fever. If left untreated, severe Rheumatoid Arthritis can cause joint deformity.
