What is Staphylococcus?
Commonly referred to as Staph, it is a type of bacteria that can cause many types of infections in the body. It is common bacteria found on most people’s skin, and often it does not cause disease. More than 30 types of staphylococci bacteria cause infections, but the most common type of staph infection is caused by staphylococcus aureus.
This is the most dangerous of all the many common staphylococcus bacteria. If the bacteria gains access to the body, either through a wound on the skin or via the respiratory tract, it can cause serious infection. These bacteria are spread by having direct contact with an infected person, by using a contaminated object, or by inhaling infected droplets dispersed by sneezing or coughing. Staph infections range from mild to life threatening. The bacteria tend to infect the skin, often causing abscesses.
However, the bacteria can travel through the blood stream called (bacteremia) and infect almost any site in the body, particularly heart valves and bones. The bacteria also tend to accumulate on medical devices in the body, such as artificial heart valves or joint, heart pacemakers, and catheters inserted through the skin in the vessels.

SKIN AND SOFT TISSUE INFECTIONS:
In this class, most infections caused by staph bacteria are relatively minor and only affect the skin or underlying tissue. Examples include;

There is also staphylococcus urinary tract infection. Its symptoms vary depending upon which part of the urinary system is involved. If the infection is in the bladder, the symptoms will include pressure in the pelvic region, lower abdominal pain and a low grade fever. If the infection is the urethra, the symptoms will be burning with urination.
